Devoted to his Seattle heritage, Matt found a Starbucks |
We, however, opted to start our journey in Bangkok with a trip to the big mall here.... MBK. It's only 2 blocks away from our school and student housing, and it has 6 floors of just about anything you'd need. Cell phones, scarves, pharmacies, McDonald's, Starbucks, and an unimaginable amount of iPhone covers.
At the food court - proof to my mom that I'm not the tallest person in Thailand! |
Marsh, Matt, Kristina and I headed over for lunch and groceries. Don't worry, we didn't go to McDonalds - they have a great food court with local cuisine. Two noodle or veggie dishes + rice for only 50 baht... just over $1.50 USD.
The grocery store was the most exciting stop of the day. My diet of Oreos can be sustained!! Not only sustained, but actually enhanced.... take a closer look at that Oreo picture - they sell grape ice cream filling flavored Oreos. Orange creamsicle, chocolate, and double stuff were also pretty popular on the shelves.
A comfort of home |
Loving Thailand already... |
Although a lot of the "comforts" of home could be found (Oreos, Coke Zero, Pop Tarts), we knew we couldn't feel right about ourselves if we purchased them.... at least not the first day. Marsh almost reached for a bottle of Milky Corn Drink, but had a last minute change of heart and switched to chrysanthemum instead (in the right in the pic below).
Milky corn drink, anyone? |
